With the support of the Spanish Embassy in China and the Seville Municipal Government, Pilar Albarrac í n held art exhibitions in the Miguel de Cervantes Library and Fotografiska Image Art Center.
"Out of the Box" includes the most representative video works and performing arts of the artist, as well as some photos and words recording his work process, leading the audience to review the nearly 30 years of art career of one of the most outstanding artists in Spain.
Pilar Alvarasin was a quite outstanding and influential contemporary Spanish artist. Since the 1990s, she has held solo exhibitions or participated in group exhibitions in major museums, foundations, galleries, etc. in the world, such as the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, Hamburg Railway Station in Berlin, Museum of Modern Art PS1 in New York, and the Chiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki. She has also participated in Quebec (2017), Busan (2014), Venice (2005), Sao Tome and Principe (2008) Moscow (2005) and Seville (2004) regional biennales.
The exhibition "Beyond the Bar" provides a multi-dimensional perspective for the public to observe Spanish society and culture. Alvarasin is committed to protecting traditions and norms from a contemporary perspective. Through various artistic creations such as video works, performances, installations, paintings, photography and handicrafts, Alvarasin has established a critical dialogue between social commitment and exquisite formal aesthetics, condemned inequality, prejudice and dualism, and integrated humor, emotion, color vitality and beauty.
Artists take popular culture as the starting point, defend modernity, and understand it as freedom of thought and abandon social, gender or religious prejudice. For this reason, she examines the tradition and liberates it from the rituals and cliches established in the old era for political and historical reasons.
