The Philippine Immigration Bureau (BI) has warned foreigners not to apply for student visas through intermediaries.
Jaime Morente, Director of the Immigration Department, issued the above warning. In June, the department received four reports of visa forgery.
According to Morient, previously, an Indian went to the Student Visa Office (SVS) of the Immigration Bureau of Quezon City to apply for his ACR i-Card.
Anthony Cabrera, the head of the visa office, reported that after assessment, officials found that the student had no visa application records and that the visa extension seal affixed to his passport was forged.
The student said that he knew an agent named Rudyard online who was responsible for handling visa applications for him and his two cousins.
Later, one of the students filed a complaint against the intermediary, and the police arrested him in the trapping operation.
In addition, there was an Indian student who allegedly asked a friend to handle the extension of his student visa.
After obtaining his passport, he found that it was affixed with a false seal.
Morient was later shocked by these events, and he warned the public to deal with affairs only with authorized immigrants.
"It is unbelievable that fraud cases continue to increase even during the New Champions pandemic," he said
He said that only representatives of foreign students' schools have the right to handle affairs with the bureau on their behalf. He advised foreign students not to go through intermediaries, because it would only bring them problems.
