The World CCTV Documentary Video of the Three Kingdoms is divided into six episodes, each of which is 50 minutes long. They are "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms", "The Fall of the Stars", "The Mourning Elegy", "The Loyal Clouds Hanging over the Nine States", "The True Heroes of the South and the North", and "The Great River Goes East and Never Goes Away". The main characters in the first episode are Chen Shou, the author of "The Three Kingdoms", Luo Guanzhong, the author of "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms", and Pei Songzhi, the author of notes to "The Three Kingdoms"; In the second episode, Zhuge Liang, the prime minister of Shu, is the main character; The main character of the third episode is Cao Cao, Emperor Wu of Wei; The main character of the fourth episode is Hou Guanyu at the Hanshou Pavilion; The fifth episode is the group portrait, with Sun Quan, Zhou Yu and Lu Su of the Eastern Wu Dynasty as the main characters; The sixth episode focuses on why the influence of the Three Kingdoms culture is so common and lasting.

Different from the traditional way of the "Three Kingdoms" documentary, which focuses on the three parts of Wei, Shu and Wu, or on major events, or takes the historical process as the context, The World of the Three Kingdoms is a collection of characters, trying to express the spiritual power of the three Kingdoms through their well-known characters.
