Saturday night I knew that we were in for an amazing aurora. But Melbourne was clouded out and I was supposed to be getting up at 4am to get on a plane to go to Sydney.
Then I started getting reports of it being visible from our local beaches. I figured it would be over before I had a chance to get there, so I didn't bother.
Then I went to the window and took a handheld photo with my phone and realised the clouds had cleared and I was seeing the tiniest of green glows in the sky.
Well, all plans of going to bed early were thrown out. I opened the window, set up my camera, and wrestled with the cats to keep them from the window sill.
Not the most epic of shots, but considering I live ~5km from the city centre, probably a once in a lifetime shot.
