TOEFL Reading Skills
01 Skill: Grasp keywords and accurately position
Candidates should master the skill of positioning according to key words in the process of doing questions. This skill can help everyone speed up the problem solving and improve the accuracy. Because most TOEFL reading questions test the examinee's understanding of the details of the article, and the answers can basically be found in the article.
02 Skill: Be good at using exclusion method
Some topics in TOEFL reading have too much information, but all of them are interference items. If you read them word for word, it will be a waste of time. The correct approach should be to dig a direction from the options. If there are several answers that contradict each other or have obvious opposite meanings, they can be directly excluded, and then the fuzzy options can be confirmed. At this time, it will be very labor-saving to go back to the text and read the relevant information carefully.
03 Skill: master the change of sentence order
Sometimes, the information contained in the question sentence and the information in the corresponding sentence in the article may be different in order, or even completely inverted. This situation may lead to losing the direction of the answer. It should also be noted that not all the information about questions in the article can be found in every sentence, and even there is some irrelevant information between keywords and phrases, which will be difficult in the process of finding answers.
04 Skill: Find synonyms, synonyms and related words
In TOEFL reading test, whether the correct answer can be found accurately depends largely on whether the synonyms, synonyms, related words and different forms of phrases can be recognized. 1. The form of words is identical; 2. Synonyms with the same meaning; 3. Similar but not synonymous words; 4. Relevant meanings. Of the four vocabulary/phrase expressions mentioned above, one is easy to identify, and the second is relatively easy to identify, but the third and fourth forms are not easy to identify, so more comparative practice should be added in the reading process. If we can break this barrier, we will be able to get good exam results.
05 Skill: Guess the meaning of words
There is no need to understand every word in TOEFL reading test. If the words you encounter do not pose any difficulty in understanding the full text and answering questions, you do not need to pay attention to their meanings. But if the words you encounter make it difficult for you to understand the full text or even answer questions, you should try to guess their meanings.
