Folder Hub is an efficiency tool hidden under the Mac bangs, which is used to quickly obtain files in the working directory without opening folders layer by layer.

It solves several pain points in Mac interaction

Pain point 1:

Whenever I need to access the files/folders on the desktop, I need to move the main window of the current work away, leak out the files/folders on the desktop, and drag the main window of the work back after selecting the files, especially on the small screen Mac.

Pain point 2:

There are multiple projects in my work. In order to facilitate management, I put them on the desktop - project folder - various project folders. Every time I visit them, I need to: open the desktop folder - open the project folder - find the files I need under various subfolders under the project folder. The open path is very long.

Pain point 3:

Every time I access a file, the open Finder window blocks the current window. Either I close it carelessly and have to open it again in the same path when I need to access it, or the main working window will be blocked under the main window when it is activated, and I often need to move the main window to reveal it when I need to access it again.

I always expect that a resident window can be used to access these files/folders, but the disadvantage is that it will block the main window of the current work, so I design it to be displayed when needed, and hidden when not needed.

I don't want to use shortcut keys or block the current main window. After thinking for a long time, I designed a very ingenious implementation method: when the mouse moves to the fringe, the window of the app will be displayed; when the mouse moves out of the window of the app, it will be hidden, that is, it is a Mac software hidden under the fringe.

In order to access the files and folders under each project more quickly, you can create workspaces in this app. Each workspace represents a different project. All workspaces will be displayed in the app window, and the files/folders under the project can be displayed by tab switching. In this way, the access path changes from the previous desktop folder – project folder – subdirectories to the project subdirectories, and the access path is greatly shortened.

When you visit the app again, just move the mouse to the bangs. It is still the directory you visited last time. There is no need to worry about the very long path of opening again after the window is closed.

In order to make it easier to learn, its working behavior is similar to that of Finder. Double click to open the file/folder, and right-click to display the menu. Better still, you can drag and drop the file to your main working window, such as dragging and dropping pictures to upload, Because it is floating on all windows, you don't need to perform this stupid operation: move when the desktop file is leaked from the work window – drag and drop upload – move back to the main window.

How to use it?
