On May 20, the fourth "Children Reading China" original good children's book release and the first children's reading conference hosted by the China Children's Center, the Provincial Civilization Office, the Provincial Women's Federation and the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism were held in Guangzhou. At the conference, the list of 100 "annual shortlisted children's books" and 30 "annual selected children's books" of the fourth "Children's Reading China" original good children's books was released. At the press conference, a list of 100 "annual shortlisted children's books" and 30 "annual selected children's books" of the fourth "Children's Reading China" original good children's books was released.
The reporter learned that the works selected in the fourth session of "Children Reading China" original good children's books cover children of all ages from 0 to 18 years old. They are both literary, artistic, educational and ideological, and are original children's books with Chinese characteristics. Huang Xiaochun, deputy director of the journal head office of the China Children's Center, introduced that the group of books insisted on being original, focusing on application and authoritative science in the selection process, and cooperated with Beijing Normal University, Capital Normal University, Institute of Psychology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other units to select books scientifically, which not only promoted the excellent traditional culture of China, but also reflected the value of the times and truly focused on children.
Hai Fei, a famous publisher and former director of the Working Committee on Children's Books, pointed out in his speech that today's era is the era of children's books, and also the era of children's reading, and children's books have broad prospects for development. He pointed out that in the past 10 years, popular science books for children have shown a good trend of development, and the publication of children's picture books has also gained momentum. At present, nearly 40 kinds of picture books in China have won various awards for international original picture books, which is one of the most award-winning categories of Chinese literary and artistic works overseas. Popular science books, picture books and children's literature have become the three main categories in the field of children's publishing.
Children's book creation should be based on children's growth and development characteristics
Many creators and publishers in the field of children's books were also gathered at the activity site. During the round table talks, everyone discussed the creation of original children's books and the high-quality development of children's reading in the new era.
Fu Wenzheng is a creator of children's picture books from Fujian. He has created and published many books and picture books, such as A Shi Has a Piece of Large calico, A Yuan's Home, and The Great Joy of the Dragon King's Family. Each of her works is integrated with many elements of traditional Chinese culture, full of Chinese style.
Fu Wenzheng said that the development space of China's original children's picture books is very large. China's rich and colorful regional culture and 5000 years of history are rich materials for picture book creation, which can give creators endless inspiration. "I want to pass these folk stories and Chinese history and culture around us to children through picture books, so that they can know where our roots are, and let them love their own culture from childhood," Fu Wenzheng said.
Wu Zeng, a "post-90s" picture book writer and illustrator, has created and published many children's picture books, such as "The King of Trees", "Birds and Statues", "The Day to Find Grandma", and "The Scarecrow Wanders". In his works, simple stories often contain many life thoughts and philosophies. "A good book is like a 'seed' planted in a child's heart. When children are young, they may read the most obvious things in the story, but those profound things will emerge with their life experience in the process of growth. This is the role of that 'seed', which is also the nourishment of literature to people." Big Wu said.
At present, the creation of picture books for children aged 0-3 is a difficult point, and many picture book writers also have deep feelings about it. Fu Wenzheng pointed out that the younger the age group, the more knowledge they need to master, such as children's psychology, and even children's medicine. Yu Hongcheng, the creator and painter of picture books, also gave an example in his speech. Newborns are very sensitive to color. Among the colors such as red, yellow, blue, green, orange and purple, they are the most sensitive to red, while they are less sensitive to purple. Therefore, the use of color in the creation of picture books is not just what the author likes, but should have scientific basis.
