The "Opening Ceremony of the Seminar on Shipping Business and Maritime Management for Developing Countries" was held in our school

On the afternoon of May 22, 2024, with the support of the Office of State Cooperation and the Ministry of Commerce, the opening ceremony of the short-term foreign aid training project "Seminar on Shipping Business and Maritime Management in Developing Countries" undertaken by our school was held in our school. Sun Changshuo, President of the Institute of Distance and Continuing Education, delivered a speech, and Tan Jie, Vice President of the Institute of International Education, presided over the speech.

Sun Changsuo welcomed the officials who attended the seminar. He introduced the basic situation of the school, and said that since the "Belt and Road" initiative was put forward, our school has actively served the major strategic needs of the country, giving full play to the advantages of transportation. Up to now, more than 10000 technical and management professionals in transportation construction, operation management and other fields have been trained in an order form for 133 "Belt and Road" countries.

In his speech, Sun Changshuo introduced the relevant courses of this seminar, and said that the "road" in the "Belt and Road" initiative represents the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. Building maritime shipping channels and international maritime transport networks, and strengthening international links and infrastructure connectivity are the basic conditions for building the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road". Beijing Jiaotong University sincerely hopes that through this seminar, we can expand the education and scientific research cooperation in the shipping and maritime fields between our university and other countries, so that more people can understand China, love Jiaotong University, and explore the cooperation model within the framework of the "Belt and Road".

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Akati Edm Komla, Deputy Director of the Maritime Coordination Center of Ghana, made a speech as the representative of the trainees. He said that he was very looking forward to gaining important knowledge and insights through this seminar to help improve the current practices of domestic shipping business and shipping industry, so as to improve operation and profitability. I hope that through the seminar activities, we can not only return to our country with valuable knowledge, but also build a friendship and cooperation network beyond the present moment, and contribute to the interconnection and trade cooperation between countries.

The 33 participants in the seminar came from Ghana, Egypt, Fiji, C ô te d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Uruguay, Samoa, Sierra Leone and other countries. During the 14 day seminar, students will study and teach in Beijing, and visit Shanghai, Zhenjiang and other places. Students will systematically learn China's knowledge in port and shipping logistics and supply chain management, low-carbon path development in the context of dual carbon, and experience China's development experience in shipping business and maritime management.
