Introduction of Kaiyuan News Agency

The election of new members of ASF this year has brought the number of ASF members worldwide to 813, including about 30 members from China or Chinese (including 11 new members elected this year). As can be seen from the following list, the number of newly elected Chinese members has increased significantly this year. The number of new members is in direct proportion to the number of Apache projects from China that have increased rapidly in recent years (currently, there are 19 projects in total: 10 top-level projects, 9 incubators; in 2015, there were only three Apache projects from China).

TLP Top Projects (10):

Apache CarbonData, Apache Dubbo, Apache Eagle, Apache Griffin, Apache HAWQ, Apache Kylin, Apache RocketMQ, Apache ServiceComb, Apache ShardingSphere, Apache Skywalking

Incubating project (9):

APISIX, BRPC, DolphinScheduler, Doris, ECharts, IotDB, MesaTEE, TubeMQ, Weex

ASF was founded in 1999 with 21 core members, responsible for monitoring the progress of the Apache HTTP server. As the number of committers (developers who provide code, patches, documents, and other contributions) continues to grow, core members then grant new committers the following access rights:

  • "Submit" or "Write" (contribution) directly to the code repository;

  • The right to vote on decisions related to the community; and

  • It is recommended to promote the ability of active users as submitters.

Those submitters who have demonstrated their contributions to the foundation's growth, evolution and progress are nominated by existing members for ASF membership.

The election brought the total number of ASF members to 813. Individuals who have been legally elected as ASF members act as "shareholders" of the Foundation
