Report Summary
In modern work, many people only regard work as a means of earning money, and they cannot find the meaning of work. They feel anxious, so they have a strong motivation to travel. This social phenomenon can be explained by Marx's alienation theory and Heidegger's and Kierkegaard's existentialism theory. According to Marx's alienation theory, in modern work, people and labor processes, products, others and themselves gradually alienate, which can be regarded as a social psychological state (Fromm). The existentialism theory believes that the pursuit of authenticity is the antidote to alienation, and the non habitual environment of tourism is conducive to temporarily getting rid of the shackles of relationships, expectations, values, norms, etc. in daily life and society, helping people reflect and gain more autonomy. Therefore, people hope to pursue the temporary authenticity in tourism to fight against alienation. This study first uses quantitative research to test this theoretical hypothesis, and then uses qualitative research to further explore its mechanism. This study explains how the alienation attributes of modern work (such as autonomy deprivation, work atomization and employee substitutability) lead to work stress. Then, employees consciously work alienation to reduce their work pressure, gain a sense of autonomy, and carry out work family boundary management. The accumulated work alienation leads to self alienation through four ways: identity confusion, social function impairment, loss of goals and meaning, and reduction of self cognition and self value. In addition, self alienation can cause anxiety, which cannot be completely alleviated by daily leisure activities. In the end, employees will have a strong motivation for tourism, because past tourism experience tells them that tourism can provide a certain degree of separation, profound reflection and more autonomy, so as to nourish real happiness. This study uses the alienation theory to explain the root causes of employees' work stress and the results of work alienation that ultimately leads to self alienation. It also uses the existentialism theory to explain the mechanism of tourism motivation, which has certain theoretical contributions to the research fields of employee stress management, work family interface and tourism motivation.
