On May 13 local time, the Secretary General of the United Nations Guterres issued a statement through the Office of the Spokesperson, saying that when the staff of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security went to a hospital in Rafah that morning, their vehicle was attacked, resulting in one death and one injury. Guterres was deeply saddened.

Guterres condemned all attacks against United Nations personnel and called for a comprehensive investigation. He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.

Guterres reiterated in his statement that he called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and the release of all detainees.
