Introduction to IELTS content and question types
1、 Listening
Length of academic and training listening tests: 30 minutes, and 10 minutes to transcribe the answers to the answer cards.
The listening test consists of 4 monologues and dialogues. Each piece of listening material is played only once, corresponding to 10 questions. The order of the questions is the same as the order in which the answers appear in the listening material.
2、 Reading
1. Academic
Reading test duration: 60 minutes.
Reading test questions: there are 3 paragraphs and 40 corresponding questions. The number of questions to be answered in each article is different. The content and title of the article appear in the examination paper. The articles are drawn from real publications (such as books, periodicals and newspapers) for non professionals, which are very similar to the articles that candidates will read in college courses in the future. It also contains non textual content, such as charts, curves, or illustrations. The total length of all articles is about 2000-2750 words.
2. Training
Reading test questions: there are 3 parts and 40 corresponding questions, and the difficulty of the article is from shallow to deep. The first part has 14 questions, and the second and third parts have 13 questions respectively.
The content and title of the article appear in the examination paper. The first part is selected from notices, advertisements, schedules, promotional materials and other similar contents. In the second part, there are usually two articles, which are selected from the university enrollment brochures, course introductions, university course introductions, library guidelines, regulations and other similar contents. The third part is a longer article selected from newspapers, magazines, periodicals, novels or non fiction books and other similar content. The total length of all articles is about 2400 words.
3、 Writing
1. Academic
Length of writing test: 60 minutes.
Type of writing test: There are two compositions in total. The first (Task 1) is for chart analysis and writing, such as tables, graphs, histograms or schematics. Candidates need to describe these information or data, which should not be less than 150 words; The second (Task 2) is an argumentative article. The examinee should discuss according to the opinions, questions or issues given by the topic. It should be no less than 250 words. The examiner graded the following four items respectively: task completion (Task 1)/task response (Task 2), coherence and cohesion, vocabulary transformation, sentence diversity and grammatical accuracy. These four aspects have the same weight.
2. Training
Length of writing test: 60 minutes.
Type of writing test: There are two compositions in total. In the first chapter, the examinee needs to write a personal letter according to the question or event in the topic, which can be informal, semi formal or formal. The question includes a description of a problem or event, and three requirements for the task that the examinee needs to complete, which should not be less than 150 words; The second part is argumentative writing. Candidates need to discuss according to the opinions, questions or issues given by the topic. It is required to be no less than 250 words.
4、 Oral English
Oral exam duration: 11-14 minutes.
Oral test question type: IELTS examines the oral English level of candidates through one-on-one communication between candidates and examiners, which is currently an interactive assessment closer to the real life scene. All IELTS examiners will receive unified training and strict monitoring to ensure that they judge candidates according to the globally unified standards, which are divided into four categories: fluency and coherence, vocabulary diversity, grammar diversity and accuracy, and pronunciation. Each exam will be recorded throughout for later monitoring to increase the objectivity and fairness of the oral test.
