As we all know, IELTS was set up in 1989 and jointly managed by the British Council of Culture and Education, the Cambridge University Examination Committee and the Australian Education International Development Agency. So do you know what the IELTS test content and question types are? If you don't know much about this, let's take a look at some materials prepared for you by the editor. I hope you like them.
Content and question type of IELTS
The IELTS test is divided into four parts: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The listening test is 30 minutes long, including an additional 10 minutes to transcribe the answer card. Listen to four paragraphs of materials and answer 40 questions, mainly including seven types of questions. The 60 minute reading test consists of reading three articles and answering 40 questions, including ten main types of questions. The writing part takes 60 minutes to complete two articles, one for charts and the other for argument. Oral English takes the form of face-to-face conversation with the examiner, a total of 11-14 minutes, three parts.
1. Examination content
The IELTS Academic Exam mainly assesses whether the examinee's English level meets the requirements of the academic environment and higher education. The exam is suitable for all examinees and has nothing to do with their majors. The written part includes listening, reading and writing. The listening test has 30 minutes of listening time plus 10 minutes of additional copying of answer cards. A total of 4 monologues and dialogues are required. The reading test should read three articles and answer questions in 60 minutes.
The writing test should complete a 150 word and 250 word composition in 60 minutes. The oral test is a separate oral test. It takes about 11-14 minutes to communicate with the examiner face to face. The content of the test includes several short questions, which are used to elaborate on a topic and discuss the topic.
2. Specific questions
The listening test is divided into four parts, each part has 10 questions, and each question has 1 point. There are 7 main types of questions as shown in the figure.
There are three articles in the academic exam. Candidates need to answer 40 questions. The number of questions to be answered in each article varies. Each question corresponds to a score. There are 10 types of questions in the reading part, some of which will have slight changes.
The academic writing exam takes 60 minutes in total, and candidates need to complete the writing requirements of two compositions. In composition 1, the topic will give some visual information, such as one or more interrelated charts, diagrams or tables, and candidates need to describe these information or data. The question can also be a mechanical diagram, device diagram, or flow chart, and the examinee needs to explain its operation method.
In composition 2, the topic will give an opinion, question or topic, and the examinee needs to discuss it. According to different situations, candidates may need to propose solutions to problems, discuss and prove an opinion, compare arguments or views, or evaluate and refute an argument or view.
The oral English test is a one-on-one communication between the examinee and the examiner to investigate the examinee's oral English level. The examiner will rate the examinee's performance throughout the oral exam.
