Fifth place This is all that Porsche needs to win the driver's championship at the FIA World Endurance Championships 2015. That's what they did in the six hour race in Bahrain this weekend.
The leading lineup of Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley and Mark Webber has won the title of driver for the No. 17 Porsche 919 Hybrid, making it the main season of Weissach. In the past 16 years, the French Endurance Race has won only three championships. The last time Audi was completely rejected was in 2009, when Peugeot won the championship in Le Mans. Aston Martin won two championships in the relevant Le Mans series with his Lola based LMP1 prototype.
This latest achievement only adds to Porsche's unparalleled sports car trophy cabinet. In the 1970s and before the 1980s, the German team won the championship of 12 manufacturers and teams (as well as the championship of 6 other drivers) at the World Sports Car Championships. It won a record 17 titles in Le Mans, 18 in Sebring and 18 in Daytona. Porsche also won the checkered flag on the Targa Florio car 11 times, the Monte Carlo rally four times, Dakar twice, and three driver titles, two team titles and 25 Formula One awards with TAG and McLaren.
