1. Huike (487~593), also known as Sengke, has a common surname of Ji, a name of Guang, and a name of Shenguang. He was born in Hulao, Luoyang (now northwest of Xingyang, Henan), and is the second ancestor of Chinese Buddhism Zen.
2. When he was a young Confucian, he read extensively and understood the changes of Lao and Zhuang.
3. After becoming a monk, he studied the Tripitaka Internal Classic.
4. When he was about 40 years old, he met the Bodhidharma of Shamen Bodhi in Songluo (now Songshan Luoyang in Henan Province) and became a teacher. He received the true biography of Dharma, one of the representative figures of Zen.
