The 2023 Lexus RZ will be the brand's first global all electric SUV, and may share the e-TNGA platform with Toyota bZ4x and Subaru Solterra. It is expected to enter the U.S. market after its debut in the spring at the end of 2022, and RZ will become the first model in the new chapter of Lexus. The brand plans to sell electric vehicles only in North America, Europe and China by 2030, and in other regions of the world by 2035.

Toyota President Akio Toyoda revealed the exterior design of the RZ 450e at a large press conference held in Japan. He also shared the electrification plan of Toyota and its bZ electric sub brand, as well as some electric concepts being developed by Lexus to work hard for its electric future.

Lexus RZ was previewed by LF-Z Electrified in concept form. It is an electric SUV that uses futuristic design language and many new technologies of Lexus. Although the design of RZ is more tame than that of LF-Z, we can see that some fast character lines on its side make it similar to RZ. Lexus's iconic boomerang light is not so sharp in RZ, but the main shaft grille is almost the same, except for its middle aperture and side dots.

RZ will also have two new technologies of LFZ preview - Direct4 and steer by wire. During the Miami Design Exhibition, Lexus collaborated with the artist Germane Barnes to create ON/, which is a one-on-one sculpture of the LF-Z electrification concept rendered with steel and hung on the wire. We talked with Brian Bolain, the global leader, about Lexus marketing, and about these technologies.

Direct4 is a torque vector all wheel drive system, which can independently send torque to each wheel according to driving conditions. Steering by wire will consider the distance and speed of wheel rotation, so as to better evaluate the driver's intention.
