1. Province, one of the administrative divisions in China, originated from the provincial system implemented in the Yuan Dynasty.
2. The level of administrative divisions is the same as that of autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and special administrative regions, and it is a provincial administrative region of the People's Republic of China.
3. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, local administrative units at the national level were once large administrative regions. After many changes, they basically stabilized in 1965; Tianjin was established in 1967, Hainan Province was established in 1988, Chongqing was established in 1997, Hong Kong was recovered in the same year, and Macao was recovered in 1999.
4. There are now 23 provinces in China.
