1. The Flood Prevention Law of the People's Republic of China is formulated to prevent and control floods, prevent and mitigate flood and waterlogging disasters, safeguard the safety of people's lives and property, and ensure the smooth progress of socialist modernization.
2. Adopted at the 27th Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Eighth National People's Congress on August 29, 1997, and effective as of January 1, 1998.
