If the husband borrows money and the wife doesn't know whether he is responsible, it depends on the purpose of the money owed.
 1. If it is used for the joint life of husband and wife or family, it is considered as the joint debt of husband and wife, and they have the obligation to repay it;
 2. If it can be proved that the debt is the debt of the husband alone, the wife does not need to bear it;
 3. If the borrowed money is used for gambling, the national law does not protect such creditor's rights and debts, and the wife does not have to bear them.
 According to the relevant judicial interpretation in China, the people's court should support the creditor's claim for the debt that one of the husband and wife bears for the daily life needs of the family in his or her own name during the existence of the marriage relationship on the ground that it belongs to the joint debt of the husband and wife.
 Legal basis
 Article 2 of the Interpretation of the Supreme People's Court on Relevant Issues Concerning the Application of Law in the Trial of Cases Involving Dispute over Debts between Husband and Wife, if a husband and wife bear debts in their personal name for the needs of daily life of the family during the marriage relationship, and the creditor claims rights on the ground that they are joint debts of the husband and wife, the people's court shall support them.
