 Legal basis
 Article 241 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China [Crime of Buying Abducted and Trafficked Women and Children] Whoever buys an abducted and trafficked woman or child shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years, criminal detention or public surveillance.
 [Rape] Whoever buys an abducted and trafficked woman and forcibly has sexual relations with her shall be convicted and punished in accordance with the provisions of Article 236 of this Law.
 [Crime of illegal detention [crime of intentional injury] [crime of humiliation] Whoever buys an abducted woman or child, illegally deprives or restricts her personal freedom, or commits crimes such as injury or humiliation, shall be convicted and punished in accordance with the relevant provisions of this Law.
 Whoever buys an abducted woman or child and commits the criminal act specified in the second or third paragraph shall be punished in accordance with the provisions on combined punishment for several crimes.
 [Crime of abducting and trafficking in women and children] Whoever buys and sells an abducted woman or child shall be convicted and punished in accordance with the provisions of Article 240 of this Law.
 Whoever buys an abducted woman or child, does not maltreat the child and does not hinder the rescue of the child may be given a lighter punishment; A lighter or mitigated punishment may be given to a woman who, according to her wishes, does not hinder her from returning to her original place of residence.
