Generally not required. Both parties can reach a written divorce agreement and sign it. Go to the civil affairs department for divorce registration. If no agreement can be reached on property division and child custody, a lawyer can be asked to negotiate with the other party. If necessary, bring a lawsuit to settle the divorce dispute.
