Handling time of traffic accidents:
 1. Duration of temporary vehicle detention
 According to the provisions of the road traffic accident handling procedure, the public security and traffic management department can temporarily detain the traffic accident causing vehicle, suspected vehicle, vehicle license plate and the driver's license of the person involved in the traffic accident, but should issue a temporary detention certificate. Due to the need of inspection and identification, the period of temporary detention of traffic accident vehicles, suspected vehicles, vehicle license plates and driver's licenses is 20 days; If the extension is necessary, it can be extended for 20 days with the approval of the public security and traffic management department at the next higher level.
 2. Liability determination period
 According to the provisions of road traffic accident handling procedures, the determination of traffic accident liability shall be made within the following time limits from the date of the occurrence of the traffic accident: within 5 days for minor accidents, 15 days for general accidents, and 20 days for major and extra serious accidents.
 If the identification cannot be made on time due to the complex circumstances of the traffic accident, it must be reported to the public security and traffic management department at the next higher level for approval, and extended for 5 days, 15 days and 20 days respectively according to the above provisions. After the determination of the responsibility for traffic accidents is made, the Letter of Determination of Responsibility for Road Traffic Accidents shall be prepared.
 If the party concerned is not satisfied with the determination of the responsibility for the traffic accident, he may apply to the public security organ at the next higher level for re determination within 15 days after receiving the determination of the responsibility for the traffic accident; The public security organ at the next higher level shall, within 30 days after receiving the application for reappraisal, make a decision to maintain, change or revoke it.
 After the decision on the re determination of road traffic accident liability is made, the Decision on the Re determination of Road Traffic Accident Liability shall be prepared and sent to the applicant and the original responsibility determination department respectively. The original responsibility determination department shall announce the re determination decision to all parties or agents within 5 days after receiving the Decision on the Re determination of Road Traffic Accident Liability.
 3. Disability assessment period
 According to the provisions of the road traffic accident handling measures, if a party to a traffic accident is disabled due to injury, he may apply to the public security organ for disability assessment within 15 days after the end of treatment. The public security organ shall assess the level of disability within 30 days after receiving the application for disability assessment according to the hospital certificate and the criteria of the public security department for disability assessment in road traffic accidents. If the party concerned is not satisfied with the disability assessment, he may apply to the public security organ at the next higher level for re assessment within 15 days after receiving the assessment letter. The public security organ at the next higher level shall make a decision on re assessment within 30 days after receiving the application for re assessment.
 4. Compensation mediation period
 After ascertaining the truth of the accident, recognizing the responsibility of the accident and determining the loss of the accident, the public security organ may call the parties and relevant personnel to mediate the compensation for the damage. The mediation period for damages is 30 days, and the public security organ may extend it for 15 days if it deems necessary. In case of injury caused by a traffic accident, mediation shall start from the date of the end of treatment or disability determination; In case of death due to a traffic accident, mediation shall start from the date specified for the completion of the funeral; If the traffic accident only causes property loss, mediation shall start from the date when the loss is determined. In the process of mediation, if the parties change mediation participants, the number and time of mediation shall be calculated consecutively; If the parties or agents cannot participate in the mediation on time due to force majeure or special circumstances, the mediation time limit will be interrupted; If the mediation time limit needs to be extended for major and complex traffic accidents, it can be extended only after the approval of the head of the public security and traffic management department at the next higher level.
