The law stipulates that drug addicts who refuse to accept community drug rehabilitation, who ingest or inject drugs during community drug rehabilitation, or who seriously violate the community drug rehabilitation agreement may be forced to be isolated for drug rehabilitation. The period of compulsory isolation for drug rehabilitation is two years. If the drug addicts meet the requirements, they may be released from compulsory isolation for drug rehabilitation in advance.
 Legal basis
 Article 234 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China [Crime of Intentional Injury] Whoever intentionally harms another person's body shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years, criminal detention or public surveillance.
 Whoever commits the crime mentioned in the preceding paragraph and causes serious injury to another person shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than three years but not more than 10 years; Whoever causes death or serious injury to another person by especially cruel means and causes serious disability shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than 10 years, life imprisonment or death. Where this Law provides otherwise, such provisions shall prevail.
