Fighting in groups is a kind of gang fighting, and different degrees of punishment will be imposed according to the different consequences of the injury caused. If the circumstances of group fighting are serious, it is a criminal offence and shall be punished according to the relevant provisions of the Criminal Law. If the circumstances are not serious, it belongs to public security punishment, and shall be punished in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Law of the People's Republic of China on Administrative Penalties for Public Security.
 According to Article 26 of the Law of the People's Republic of China on Administrative Penalties for Public Security, anyone who commits one of the following acts shall be detained for not less than five days but not more than ten days, and may also be fined not more than 500 yuan; If the circumstances are relatively serious, he shall be detained for not less than 10 days but not more than 15 days and may also be fined not more than 1000 yuan:
 （1） Gang fighting;
 （2） Chasing or intercepting others;
 （3） Forcibly taking or demanding or arbitrarily damaging or occupying public or private property;
 （4） Other provocative behaviors.
 According to the Criminal Law, anyone who commits one of the following acts of provoking trouble and disrupting social order shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than five years, criminal detention or public surveillance:
 （1） Beating others at will, to a flagrant extent;
 （2） Chasing, intercepting or abusing others to a flagrant extent;
 （3） Forcibly taking or demanding or arbitrarily damaging or occupying public or private property, the circumstances being serious;
 （4） Making troubles in public places, causing serious disorder in public places.
 The criminal law also stipulates that anyone who intentionally harms another person's body shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years, criminal detention or public surveillance.
 Whoever commits the crime mentioned in the preceding paragraph and causes serious injury to another person shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than three years but not more than 10 years; Whoever causes death or serious injury to another person by especially cruel means and causes serious disability shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than 10 years, life imprisonment or death. Where this Law provides otherwise, such provisions shall prevail.
