In China, there are four ways of inheritance:
 (1) Testamentary succession refers to the testament made by the decedent before his death to designate the successor to inherit his own estate.
 (2) A legacy is a testament made by the decedent before his life to donate the estate to the state, the collective, or a person other than the legal heir.
 (3) A legacy maintenance agreement is an agreement between the decedent and a supporter, in which the latter bears the obligation to raise the decedent to death and bury him, and all or part of the decedent's property is transferred to the latter after his death. This method mainly occurs when the elderly are not supported.
 (4) Statutory succession refers to the order determined by law according to the distance of kinship when none of the above three situations exists.

 According to Article 5 of the Inheritance Law, after the beginning of inheritance, it shall be handled in accordance with statutory inheritance; If there is a will, it shall be handled according to testamentary succession or bequest; If there is a legacy maintenance agreement, it shall be handled in accordance with the agreement.
 (The Inheritance Law will expire on December 31, 2020)
 According to Article 1123 of the Civil Code, after the beginning of succession, it shall be handled in accordance with statutory succession; If there is a will, it shall be handled according to testamentary succession or bequest; If there is a legacy maintenance agreement, it shall be handled in accordance with the agreement.
