If a party wishes to divorce, he or she must apply for divorce registration at the registration authority in the place where one party's residence is located. The party concerned shall terminate the relationship between husband and wife as soon as he or she obtains the divorce certificate. When applying for divorce, the party concerned shall provide evidence to the registration authority.

According to Article 10 of Chapter III of the Marriage Registration Ordinance, if mainland residents voluntarily divorce, both men and women shall jointly go to the marriage registration authority where one party's permanent residence is located to register for divorce.
