The marriage certificate is a legal document issued by the marriage registration administration organ to prove the effective establishment of the marriage relationship. The original is in duplicate, one for each man and one for each woman. The style of the original is formulated by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and printed by the people's governments of provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government. The people's governments of counties, municipal districts, or cities not divided into districts affix their seals. The marriage certificate must be affixed with the photos of both men and women, and stamped with the special steel seal for marriage registration. If the marriage certificate is lost, you can apply to the Civil Affairs Bureau for a replacement. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the marriage certificate has become a compact marriage certificate. The 1950 marriage certificate was only two palm sized thin pieces of paper, without any gorgeous patterns except the name, native place, signature, age of the married person and the signature of the marriage witness.
