 Legal basis
 Article 279 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China [Crime of bluffing] Whoever impersonates a functionary of a State organ to bluff shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years, criminal detention, public surveillance or deprivation of political rights; If the circumstances are serious, he shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than three years but not more than 10 years.
 Whoever impersonates a people's policeman to cheat and bluff shall be given a heavier punishment in accordance with the provisions of the preceding paragraph.
 Article 51 of the Law of the People's Republic of China on Administrative Penalties for Public Security shall be detained for not less than five days but not more than ten days and may also be fined not more than 500 yuan if he impersonates a functionary of a State organ or swindles in other false identities; If the circumstances are relatively minor, he shall be detained for not more than five days or fined not more than 500 yuan.
