In criminal cases, when the public security organ detains a person, it must produce a detention certificate. After detention, the family members or the unit to which the detainee belongs shall be notified within 24 hours of the reason for detention and the place of custody, except in cases that hinder investigation or where notification is not possible.

Article 85 of the Criminal Procedure Law states that when a public security organ detains a person, it must produce a detention certificate.
After detention, the detainee shall be immediately sent to a detention center for custody, which shall not exceed 24 hours at the latest. The family members of the detainee shall be notified within 24 hours after detention, except in cases where notification of a crime that endangers national security or a crime that is suspected of terrorist activities may hinder investigation. After the circumstances impeding investigation disappear, the detainee's family members shall be notified immediately.
