It is not against the law that children and daughter-in-law do not support their parents in law. Daughters in law have no obligation to support their parents in law, only to assist their husbands to support their parents.

The spouse of the supporter is not a statutory supporter. Although the law stipulates that the spouse of the supporter shall assist the supporter in performing the maintenance obligation, the obligation of assistance is not the maintenance obligation, and this provision only applies to the duration of the husband wife relationship. If the supporting person dissolves the marriage relationship with his or her spouse, or the supporting person dies, then the obligation of the spouse to assist in maintenance is automatically relieved.

    Legal basis

Article 1067 of the Civil Code of the People's Republic of China [Parental support obligations and children's support obligations] If parents fail to perform their support obligations, minor children or adult children who cannot live independently have the right to require their parents to pay maintenance fees.
Adult children who fail to perform their obligations of support, parents who lack the ability to work or who are in difficulty in life, have the right to demand that adult children pay alimony. Drowning, abandoning and other acts of injuring or injuring infants are prohibited.

Article 261 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China [Crime of Abandonment] Whoever refuses to support a person who is old, young, ill or has no ability to live independently, if the circumstances are flagrant, shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than five years, criminal detention or public surveillance.
