On December 2, the 2022 Tengchong Scientists Forum - Symposium on the Biological Effects of Global Change was held in Tengchong, Yunnan. Zhang Yaping, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Luo Hui, member of the Party Leadership Group of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology and head of the International Cooperation Department, attended the seminar and delivered a speech. The meeting was chaired by Zhang Zhibin, Executive Director of the International Zoological Society.

Zhang Yaping pointed out that the 27th UN Climate Change Conference has just concluded. At this conference, countries are very concerned about the disastrous consequences of climate change. This "2022 Tengchong Scientists Forum - Symposium on the Biological Effects of Global Change" focuses on the research and assessment of the impact of global change on biodiversity loss, animal epidemic, biological invasion, biological disaster outbreak, resource depletion, etc., and discusses key scientific issues and measures to deal with climate change in the future. This seminar is very timely and important.

Luo Hui said that China attaches great importance to biodiversity conservation. This seminar is of great significance for promoting international cooperation and exchanges on biodiversity conservation, implementing the initiative of jointly building a global community of life, and achieving the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The China Association for Science and Technology will fully support international organizations such as the International Zoological Society to carry out in-depth discussions with scientists from all over the world on specific issues, jointly propose solutions, and actively mobilize scientific and technological workers to contribute to the implementation of global development initiatives and the realization of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Wei Fuwen, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and researcher of the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Charles Krebs, academician of the Royal Canadian Academy of Sciences and professor of the University of British Columbia, Christopher Dickman, academician of the Australian Academy of Sciences and professor of the University of Sydney, Marcel Holyoak, professor of the California Institute of Technology Davis Branch, and Wang Zhiheng, professor of Peking University, Du Weiguo, a researcher of the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhang Zhibin, a foreign academician of the European Academy of Sciences, and a researcher of the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, respectively made reports on the mechanisms of species extinction, outbreaks of diseases and pests, and invasion of alien species, showing the latest work progress in the field of research on the biological effects of global change, and discussing future work plans.

The International Research Program on Biological Effects of Global Change (BCGC), initiated by the International Zoological Society, is a core project of the International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS). Over the past decade, BCGC has organized various academic activities, including 38 international conferences, symposiums, workshops and training sessions. Through the implementation of the BCGC plan, the large-scale climate factors that affect the occurrence of animal populations, the mechanism of animal endangerment or extinction, the outbreak of pests and rats, and the epidemic law of animal epidemics have been revealed, which has had a wide impact on academic circles at home and abroad, significantly improving people's understanding and cognition of the biological effects of global change, It provides a scientific basis for coping with the increasingly serious challenges of global change.

The symposium on the biological effects of global change is a sub forum of the Tengchong Scientists Forum, which is organized by the International Zoological Society, the International Federation of Biological Sciences and the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. More than 150 domestic and foreign experts and scholars participated in the symposium online.
