I read Fei Lao's "Local China" with great enthusiasm for sociology. After reading it, I felt deeply. As Fei Lao said, this book is an attempt to answer the question of "what kind of society is the local society as a grass-roots society in China?". The local China mentioned here is not a sketch of the specific Chinese society, but a special system contained in the specific Chinese traditional grass-roots society, which dominates all aspects of social life. This book describes from the aspects of native color, characters going to the countryside, re discussing characters going to the countryside, different order pattern, maintaining private morality, family, difference between men and women, rule by etiquette, no litigation, inaction politics, elder rule, geographical and blood relationship, separation of name and reality, and from desire to need, vividly and comprehensively showing the face of rural China. Each chapter has a lot of feelings. Here, we will explain the thinking about "soil" separately. "Although we say that rural people are rustic, it seems to have a sense of contempt, but the word" soil "is used well. The basic meaning of the word" soil "refers to soil. Rural people cannot leave soil, because living in the countryside, farming is the most common way to earn a living". It is true that in today's society, urban people are accustomed to scorning rural people with their native style and ingenuity. However, only those who earn a living by farming can understand the value of soil. Soil is their lifeblood, a symbol of dignity, a sense of simplicity, and a sense of simplicity, steadfastness and massiveness. Our nation is inseparable from the soil. It has a glorious history and occupies a special place in our culture. In this sense, we should respect the local land, farmers and our own culture?
As for local customs and modern society, "we are all acquaintances, just say hello, can we say more?" Such words are our local customs, but they have become obstacles in modern society. Modern society is a society composed of strangers, and individuals do not know their details, so it is necessary to make it clear. The local society gains trust from familiarity, while the modern society has no basis for words. It also needs to sign a letter, draw a picture, and form a law. The credit of the local society is not the emphasis on the contract, but the reliability of knowing the rules of a behavior without thinking. I think it is obvious that when we go out of the countryside and come to Beijing, the big city, we will have a lot of problems. We will readily agree to others. We do not understand why we agreed to do so but did not follow it. We do not understand why we are not familiar with it and laugh. Therefore, we will be cheated, injured, and called stupid by others. However, Is it really silly? It's just that our local habits have not adapted to this modern society.
The passage of time is always recording the process of history. When we look back on the development of Chinese sociology over the past century and cross the threshold of the century, there will always be many names engraved on our minds. As a model of a generation of scholars, Mr. Fei Xiaotong has devoted his whole life to the establishment of Chinese sociology through decades of academic career; His representative work, "Rural China", is even more influential and can be called a classic. It still benefits the younger scholars, leads the exploration of the characteristics of Chinese traditional society, and explores the profound connotation of Chinese culture.
This is the first time I have read Rural China, and I will read it for the second and third time. I hope every time I get something!
