The Ministry continued to promote five commercial poverty alleviation initiatives and achieved positive results. The first one is e-commerce poverty alleviation. Last year, the Ministry of Commerce, together with relevant departments, promoted e-commerce poverty alleviation to achieve full coverage of national level poverty-stricken counties. In that year, the online retail sales of poverty-stricken counties nationwide reached 239.2 billion yuan, up 33% year on year.

The person in charge said that farmers really benefit from e-commerce in rural areas. China has a large population and a large land area, especially in some mountainous areas. The transportation is very inconvenient. In the past, there were some good agricultural products and specialty products that could not be sold due to inconvenient transportation and poor information, and could not be bought even if there was demand in the city. E-commerce just solved this problem. This year, the Ministry of Commerce will also increase efforts to help the poor through e-commerce, promote the development of e-commerce in poverty-stricken areas, and drive the employment and income increase of 5 million farmers in poverty-stricken areas.

In addition, domestic poverty alleviation, foreign labor poverty alleviation, industrial poverty alleviation and border trade poverty alleviation are all in full swing. For example, the number of overseas labor service workers last year was million, including more than 50000 in poverty-stricken counties. Industrial poverty alleviation, by carrying out the docking of "agriculture over agriculture", solves the problem of difficult selling of agricultural products. In terms of poverty alleviation through border trade, China's border trade volume reached 51.5 billion US dollars last year. At the same time, the Ministry of Commerce has also provided assistance to border economic cooperation zones, driving more than 180000 jobs.
