Contemporary Heroes is a novel written by Lemontov. The author, Lemontov, was a Russian poet in the 19th century. It is rare for poets to write novels. Born into a small noble family in Moscow, he began to write poems in middle school. In 1835, he published the long poem Haji Abrek, which attracted the attention of the literary world. In 1837, Pushkin died after being seriously injured in a duel. Lementov angrily wrote the poem "Death of a Poet", saying that the main culprit for killing Pushkin was the Russian upper class society, and he was therefore exiled to the Caucasus by the authorities. From 1839 to 1841, he completed the novel Contemporary Heroes. This novel consists of five relatively independent novellas and short stories. By describing the energetic and intelligent young aristocrat Bi Qiaolin who was unable to display his talents under the social conditions at that time, the work became the experience of "superfluous people" who had to spend their lives on some boring trivial matters, strongly expressing a negative attitude to the dark reality. Most of the length of the novel is in the form of the protagonist's diary, focusing on self psychological analysis, with the characteristics of realistic objective and specific description and romantic expression of subjective feelings.

The hero Bi Qiaolin, a young aristocrat, is empty, boring, cold and selfish. However, there seems to be a desire to make a difference in his heart. Lemontov selected different pieces of Bi Qiaolin's life and reproduced them from different angles. Contemporary Hero is the first psychological novel in Russian literature and one of the best psychological novels. Lemontov uses spoken language and tries to avoid using outdated foreign languages and French. The language of characters is full of distinct personality. Contemporary Hero is also a social psychological novel. The author tries to reveal Bi Qiaolin's personality through his attitude towards society. Bi Qiaolin is not only the product of the society, but also the opposite of the society, so he cannot integrate into the society. He was the representative of the young generation at that time. They could not find the opportunity to show their ambitions, so they entered the ranks of "superfluous people".

It is indeed a novel written by a poet. After reading it twice, I have a little experience: How can a person like Bi Qiaolin become a contemporary hero? At the end of the reading, I understand that Bi Qiaolin actually represented a youth group in the society at that time. Because of social reasons, they had nothing to do, and their hearts were empty. They had to make troubles everywhere. The hero Bi Qiaolin is a cynic. He is rich and headstrong. He has a good way of pursuing women. He plays hard to get and has played with many women's emotions. He likes adventure, has passion, loves freedom, and is tired of everything once he catches it. He doesn't want to live a mediocre and quiet life, constantly looking for excitement, and even does not care about life. It seems that every country has a confused era. At the beginning of the 19th century, in Russia, young people had no ideals and did not know why they were alive. They became "redundant people". In the 1960s, there was a similar phenomenon in the United States. The shadow of the Vietnam War, the turbulence and the uproar led to various movements, and the outlook on life and values had a great impact. As a result, the young generation was confused and could not see the future, and the phenomenon of "hippies" appeared. They wear strange clothes, play rock and roll, and live in groups. Rebellious personality, dissatisfied with reality. The same is true in our Cultural Revolution era, when the cultural movement was broken and established, and Chinese traditional culture was divided into different generations. Beliefs were lost, moral values were lost, and the essence of traditional Chinese culture was lost. Many young people in that era lost their lives, had no goals, and could not see the future.

With the reform and opening up, China has become rich. Now, China is taking the road of national rejuvenation, socialism with Chinese characteristics, and rule of law. We live in the best era, with the expectation of realizing modernization, the dream of the Chinese Dream, and the concept of core values, so that the young generation is vigorous. They have dreams, expectations, and future. There is also a broad stage for them to make achievements and perform their wonderful lives. They will not and cannot become "superfluous people" in Lementov's writing
