reaction to a book or an article
"Trivia" is a prose of Mr. Lu Xun, and is the eighth article in the book "Morning Flowers and Evening Gathering".
"Trivia" introduces Mr. Lu Xun's life experience from leaving home to studying abroad in pursuit of new knowledge in order to break through feudal constraints.
Starting from the author's personal experience, the article writes about the influence of the theory of evolution and bourgeois democratic thought on progressive youth.
In the ninth paragraph, it is said that the only Chinese and Western school in the city has also become "the target of public criticism". This indeed shows that the old feudal ideas are deeply rooted, and people do not understand and agree with the new ideas. What impressed me most was that when the author was studying at the Thunder and Lightning School, the headmaster gave an essay entitled "On Washington", and the Chinese teacher did not know what Washington was. This also shows that people's minds were old, their ideas were aging, and people did not accept and reject new ideas. Isn't such a teacher going to delay students' studies? The most interesting part of the article is the two so-called "experiences" before going to Japan to study abroad. They are just a bunch of nonsense and have nothing to use. It also shows that the Chinese people misunderstood some foreign things at that time. The following paragraphs also describe the impact of some new cultures on young students at that time, and the lack of support of older generations for learning new knowledge. "Trivia" can be said to be a microcosm of the society of that era, which well describes some social phenomena at that time, and is a good reminiscent prose.
