Northern Guangdong, the northern region of Guangdong Province, includes 10 counties (cities and districts) under the jurisdiction of Shaoguan, including Nanxiong City, Shixing County, Renhua County, Lechang City, Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County, Qujiang District, Wengyuan County, Xinfeng County, Zhenjiang District, Wujiang District, and Lianzhou City, Liannan Yao Autonomous County, Lianshan Zhuang and Yao Autonomous County, Yangshan County, Yingde City, Fogang County, Qingxin District 8 counties (cities, districts) including Qingcheng District.
Guangdong is divided into eastern Guangdong, western Guangdong and northern Guangdong. According to the perspective of economic development, the mountainous areas in northern Guangdong include Shaoguan City, Qingyuan City, Meizhou City, Heyuan City and Yunfu City. North Guangdong is located at the junction of Guangdong, Jiangxi, Hunan and Guangxi provinces (regions). To the northeast, across the Dageng Mountains, it is Ganzhou area of Jiangxi Province, to the north, it is bordered by Chenzhou City and Yongzhou City of Hunan Province, and to the west, it is Hezhou City of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The Chinese dialects in northern Guangdong are very complex. In addition to Hakka, Cantonese, Minnan Dialect Island and Southwest Mandarin. North Guangdong is one of the main places where Hakka people live. Until today, about 80% of the people's mother tongue is Hakka, which is also a commonly recognized dialect by most people.
