There are 3 kinds of branches and 2 kinds of buds in jujube trees. Branches are jujube heads, jujube strands and jujube hangers. Buds are divided into main buds and secondary buds.
The head of jujube is the only important vegetative branch that can elongate and expand. The growth and development of tree height, crown expansion and fruiting branches depend on the head of jujube.
Jujube strand is the main fruit bearing part of jujube, which mainly grows on each node of the secondary branch. One to several fruiting branches (jujube hangers) are sprouted from the jujube strand, which is called the fruiting parent branch. In fact, jujube strands are extremely compressed jujube head branches, whose structure is the same as that of jujube head.
The annual growth (lengthening) of the jujube strand is very small, and several jujube hangers are drawn out, which indicates that the jujube strand has stretched several sections. The top buds and the main buds hidden on the side of the jujube strand sometimes reverse to grow into stronger jujube head branches.
Jujube hanger, namely deciduous branch, is the fruit bearing branch of jujube. From the beginning of germination, flower buds are differentiated in the leaf axils along with the growth. Except for the 1~2 nodes at the base of the jujube hanger, the other nodes are inflorescences with different flower numbers.
