Inner Mongolia covers an area of 11830000 square kilometers, accounting for 12.3% of the total area of the country. It has jurisdiction over 9 prefecture level cities, 3 leagues, 22 municipal districts, 11 county-level cities, 17 counties, 49 banners and autonomous banners. Located in the northern border of the People's Republic of China, the Mongolian Autonomous Region, with its capital Hohhot, straddles the northeast, north and northwest regions, and borders eight provinces and regions. It is one of the provincial administrative regions with the largest number of neighboring provinces in China, bordering Mongolia and the Russian Federation in the north, and one of China's five minority autonomous regions.
