The season of fragrant rice flowers is July and August in summer. In Hubei, China, transplanting usually takes place from May 13 to May 20, and heading and flowering usually take place from July 30 to August 10, about 15 days. Although the rice blossom is small, it is beautiful. It takes more than one hour from opening to closing.
The rice flower has no calyx and corolla. When it is about to open, you can see through the sunlight that the shadow of the anther in the glume is gradually pushed to the top of the glume due to the elongation of the filaments. At the same time, the glume opens like a clam shell, and one yellowish stamen and six pistils gradually fall out. Green glumes continue to open. The shape and size of rice flower is similar to that of rice, and it looks green from a distance.
Rice panicles usually blossom from the main axis first, followed by the upper branches, and then from top to bottom. Each branch branch blossoms accordingly. On the same branch, the first spikelet at the top opens first, followed by the spikelet at the bottom of the branch branch, and then blooms upward in turn. The second spikelet at the top often blooms last.
