1. System level:
KET belongs to Cambridge Common English Level 1, which is a basic English level certification
PET belongs to Cambridge Common English Level II, which is an intermediate English level certification
2. Vocabulary:
From the perspective of vocabulary, the vocabulary required by KET is 1500, and that required by PET is 3500. After passing, KET is equivalent to the third to fifth grade level of international schools, corresponding to A2 level in the European modern language syllabus, and PET is equivalent to sixth to seventh grade, corresponding to B1 level.
3. Examination difficulty
The higher the grade, the more difficult the exam is. The PET exam has higher requirements for the examinee's ability in listening, speaking, reading and writing. For example, the number of words required in the writing part of KET is only 35 words or more, while the number of words required in the writing part of PET is 100 words, three times that of KET.
4. Study duration and applicants
Due to the difference in difficulty, the recommended learning period of KET is 90 hours and that of PET is 120 hours. The students who apply for the test of KET are mainly in Grade 3 and Grade 4, while the majority of PET students are in Grade 5 and Grade 6, usually students with a certain English foundation.
