Macheng is a city in Hubei Province. It is located in the northeast of Hubei Province, the north of Huanggang City, the south foot of the middle section of Dabie Mountains on the north bank of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and the junction of Hubei, Henan and Anhui provinces. Macheng has a long history, which is named after the longevity fairy Magu; In the 18th year of Emperor Kaihuang of the Sui Dynasty (AD 598), Macheng County was set up, and in 1986, the county was removed to become a city. Macheng is a famous old revolutionary base; It is one of the origins of the Jute Uprising, the founding place of the Fourth Red Army and the Twenty eighth Red Army, the famous Soviet area, and an important base during the Anti Japanese War and the Liberation War. It has gone out of 36 generals of the Republic such as Wang Shusheng, Xu Shiyou, and Chen Zaidao, and is known as the first township of generals in China; It is also one of the eight birthplaces of ancient Chinese immigrants. Xiaogan Township is the starting place and distribution center for Huguang to fill Sichuan, and is recognized as the holy land of ancestors in Bashu.
