Hubei Institute of Automotive Industry is located in Shiyan City, Hubei Province, China's automobile city. Hubei Institute of Automotive Industry started as an amateur university for workers in the Second Automobile Manufacturing Factory in 1972. In June 1983, it was approved by the State Council to become a full-time regular undergraduate university. In 1985, it obtained the right to award bachelor's degrees in all undergraduate specialties. In 2011, it was selected into the second batch of universities under the "Outstanding Engineer Education and Training Plan" of the Ministry of Education. In 2013, It has been approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as a master's degree conferring unit.
According to the official website of the school in July 2021, the school covers an area of 956000 square meters, with 300000 square meters of school buildings, 910 million yuan of fixed assets, and 190 million yuan of teaching and scientific research equipment.
