1. The Mid Autumn Festival, also known as Moon Festival, Moonlight Festival, Moon Festival, Autumn Festival, Mid Autumn Festival, Moon Worship Festival, Moon Mother's Day, Moon Festival, Reunion Festival, etc., is a traditional Chinese folk festival. The Mid Autumn Festival originated from the worship of celestial phenomena and evolved from the worship of the moon on the autumn eve in ancient times. At first, the festival of "Moon Festival" was held on the day of the "Autumn Equinox" of the 24th solar term in the Ganzhi calendar. Later, it was moved to the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar. In some places, the Mid Autumn Festival was set on the 16th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar. Since ancient times, there have been folk customs such as offering sacrifices to the moon, appreciating the moon, eating moon cakes, playing with lanterns, appreciating osmanthus flowers, drinking osmanthus wine, and so on.
2. The Mid Autumn Festival is a vestige of the worship of the ancient celestial phenomena, the custom of worshiping the moon. In the 24 solar terms, the "autumnal equinox" is the ancient "festival of offering sacrifices to the moon", and the Mid Autumn Festival is derived from the traditional "festival of offering sacrifices to the moon". In traditional culture, like the sun and the moon, these two alternate celestial bodies became the objects of worship of the ancestors. The celebration of the Mid Autumn Festival originated from the sacrifice of the ancient people to the moon. It is the remains and derivative of the custom of the Chinese nation to sacrifice the moon. Sacrifice to the moon is a very old custom in China. In fact, it is a worship activity for the "moon god" by some ancient people in some places in ancient China. According to textual research, the "Moon Festival" was originally set on the day of the "autumnal equinox" of the 24 solar terms of the Ganzhi calendar. However, due to historical development, the calendar was later integrated and the lunar calendar (summer calendar) was used, so the "Moon Festival" was changed from the "autumnal equinox" of the 24 solar terms of the Ganzhi calendar to the August 15 of the summer calendar (lunar calendar). The Mid Autumn Festival is a combination of seasonal customs in autumn, and most of the festival customs it contains have ancient origins.
