Cotton:
Cotton is the seed fiber of cotton plants in Malvaceae family, which is native to the subtropical zone. The plant is shrubby, and can grow to 6 meters high in tropical areas, usually 1 to 2 meters high. The flower is milky white, turns crimson soon after flowering and withers, leaving a small green capsule called cotton boll. There are cottonseed in the cotton boll. The fuzz on the cottonseed grows out of the cotton seed skin and fills the inside of the cotton boll. When the cotton boll is mature, it cracks, revealing soft fibers. The fiber is white or white with yellow, about 2-4cm (0.75~1.5 inches) long, containing about 87~90% cellulose, 5~8% water, and 4~6% other substances. The countries with the highest cotton production include China, the United States, India, etc.
