History of Huanggang Normal University

On March 25, 1999, with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, the original normal college was upgraded to a full-time provincial ordinary undergraduate normal college. Since the establishment of the "Huangzhoufu Normal School" in 1905, Huanggang Normal University has gone through a hundred years of schooling.

Huangzhou Prefecture Primary Normal School was founded in 1905 and later renamed as Huangzhou Prefecture Normal School. During the Anti Japanese War, the school once moved from Sanjieyuan (Sibohe, Huanggang County) to Dadu Village, Xinzhou, and was renamed the Second Normal School of Hubei Province. It opened general teachers and simplified teacher classes to train primary and secondary school teachers.

During the War of Liberation, the school moved from Dadu Village in Xinzhou to Huangzhou in 1945-1947, moved from Huangzhou to Hanyang in 1947-1948, and moved back to Huangzhou in 1949. Although the school has undergone many changes, its name is always "Hubei Provincial Huanggang Normal School".

After the liberation of Huangzhou, Huanggang Normal School was taken over by the People's Government of Hubei Province and changed into "Hubei Huanggang Normal School";

From 1949 to 1950, ordinary teachers and art teachers merged to form the Normal Department of Huanggang Administrative Region Secondary School; In July 1953, Hubei Huanggang Normal School was restored and incorporated into Guangji Normal School; In 1960, the school was renamed Huanggang Teachers College; In the autumn of 1961, Huanggang University and Huanggang Kindergarten Normal School were revoked, and five classes of Grade 60 students were merged into Hubei Huanggang Normal College. During the "Cultural Revolution" period, the school was renamed Huanggang Normal School, with two brands of Normal School and Continuing Education School. In 1975, it began to enroll higher normal classes.

In the autumn of 1977, the school was renamed "Huanggang Branch of Central China Normal University", and was approved by the provincial government to become a college.

In April 1978, with the approval of the State Council, the school was renamed Huanggang Teachers College. Since then, the school has entered a new period of development as a regular college; In 1986, the school was upgraded to sub prefecture level; In 1988, the school was named the first "National Advanced Teachers College".

In 1993, with the approval of the State Education Commission, the school was renamed "Huanggang Teachers College".

In 1995, with the approval of the National Education Commission, Huanggang Institute of Education was incorporated under the Provincial Education Commission, and its educational function and school running strength were further enhanced.

On December 17, 1998, our school's "upgrading from junior college to undergraduate" investigation and evaluation passed the expert review with 90% of the high votes, and the "upgrading from junior college to undergraduate" was successful.

On March 25, 1999, Huanggang Normal University was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education; On November 28, 2000, our school held a grand opening ceremony of "Huanggang Normal University" in Zhumingshan New Campus, marking that our school's development can enter a new historical period.

In 2004, Huanggang Normal University accepted the evaluation of undergraduate teaching by the Ministry of Education and took the lead in passing the evaluation among the newly established local undergraduate colleges in China. From December 25 to 30, an expert group from the Ministry of Education visited our university to assess the level of undergraduate teaching.

Development of Huanggang Normal University
