Since 1992, Long Yongtu has been involved in the negotiation of China's re entry into GATT. In February 1997, he was appointed as the chief negotiator of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, responsible for trade negotiations and multilateral economic and legal affairs, and the chief negotiator of China's accession to the WTO. In November 2001, China finally successfully joined the WTO.
Long Yongtu: born in May 1943 in Changsha, Hunan Province, he grew up in Guiyang, Guizhou Province. He is the chief negotiator of China's GATT resumption and WTO accession negotiations, the former vice minister of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, the former director and secretary-general of the Boao Forum for Asia, the former dean of the School of International Relations and Public Affairs of Fudan University, the current co chairman of the Global CEO Development Conference, and the chairman of the China and Globalization Think Tank.
