Xinhua Index: The price of Zigui navel orange drops in early summer

Since May, all kinds of seasonal fruits have come into the market one after another. The market supply is sufficient, and the price of most fruits has begun to decline. In the current period (May 9-15), Xinhua Yichang Zigui Navel Orange Production Area Purchase Price Index reported 1683.22 points, down 7.55% month on month and 9.96% year on year; Xinhua Yichang Zigui Navel Orange E-commerce Price Index closed at 1602.17, down 1.46% month on month and 5.76% year on year; Xinhua (China) navel orange wholesale price index reported 1342.74 points, up 2.22% month on month and down 7.96% year on year.

In terms of the acquisition of navel orange production area, from a month on month perspective, various seasonal fruits have been listed one after another, and the market supply is sufficient. The price of most fruits has declined. The acquisition price of Zigui navel orange production area in this period fell 7.55% month on month. On a year-on-year basis, Zigui's production area is still dominated by Lunwan navel orange. At the same time last year, Zigui Lunwan navel orange was in the final stage, and Xia orange has entered the market. In this period, the purchase price of Zigui navel orange production area rose 4.04% year on year.

Wang Enjie, secretary-general of Zigui County E-Commerce Association, said that despite the continuous high temperature and drought last year, Zigui navel orange production decreased this year, but Zigui County has continued to expand the planting area of Lunwan navel orange in recent years. This year, the total output of Zigui Lunwan navel orange is higher than that of last year. It is expected that Lunwan navel orange will continue to be sold until the middle or end of June this year.

In terms of navel orange e-commerce sales, as of May 15, the average price of Zigui Lunwan navel orange e-commerce channel sales was 11.84 yuan/kg, down 1.46% month on month and 5.76% year on year.

From the perspective of the national market, the Xinhua (China) navel orange wholesale price index for the current period reported 1342.74 points, up 2.22% month on month and down 7.96% year on year.

"Since May, the average wholesale price of fruits across the country has declined slightly, mainly due to the large number of watermelon and other melons on the market. It is expected that the price of fruits will enter the channel of seasonal decline in the later period." Wang Yunjuan, chief fruit analyst of the early warning team of agricultural products market of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said.

Analysts of Xinhua Index believe that the peak season for ripening and picking of a variety of fruits is at the turn of spring and summer. Seasonal and high priced fruits start the price reduction mode at the same time. The main reason is that the market supply has significantly increased, consumers can choose more varieties, and the competition for fruit sales is more intense. With more seasonal fruits coming on the market in the future and the continuous increase in the supply of low-cost Egyptian sweet oranges, it is expected that the wholesale price of navel orange sales across the country will maintain a steady downward trend.
