Introduction to Zhongwei

Zhongwei has a long history and is an important town in the history of Ningxia. Human beings have lived and multiplied here for more than 30000 years. In the Warring States Period, it was a mixed place of Qiang and Rong. The Qin Dynasty belonged to Beidi Prefecture, the Sui Dynasty set Feng'an County, the Tang Dynasty set Xiong Prefecture, and the Yuan Dynasty changed to Qingli Prefecture. In 1399 AD (the first year of Jianwen's reign in the Ming Dynasty), Ningxia Zhongwei was set up under the jurisdiction of Shaanxi Dusi, hence the name of Zhongwei. In 1724 (the second year of Emperor Yongzheng's reign in the Qing Dynasty), the Wei system was abolished and it was named Zhongwei County, which has been in use since then. Zhongwei City is located in the middle and west of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, bordering Wuzhong City of Ningxia in the east, Guyuan City in the south, Gansu Province in the west, and Alashan League of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the north, with a total area of 14755 square kilometers. Most of the landforms in the south are loess hills and gullies. The middle part is the Yellow River alluvial plain - Weining Plain, known as "the southern part of the Yangtze River".
