Yingtan has a long history and outstanding people.As early as the middle and late Shang Dynasty in the 16th and 11th centuries BC, it has become an important base for Chinese ceramic production (the excavation of Jiaoshan Grottoes site group once caused a great sensation in the Chinese archaeological community). From the Qin Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty, it was under the jurisdiction of Yuhan County (today's Yugan County) (once under the jurisdiction of Jinxing County), and was called Yingtan Square in the Tang Dynasty.At the end of the Tang Dynasty, Guixi County was set up, and Yingtan was designated as the jurisdiction of Guixi County;Wanli of the Ming Dynasty set up a patrol department in Yingtan. Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty named it Yingtan Department. In the fourth year of Tongzhi (1865), it was renamed Yingtan Town until 1956 after the founding of the People's Republic of China.In January 1957, it was upgraded to a county town, and in April 1958, it was downgraded to the jurisdiction of Guixi County;In July 1960, it was upgraded to a county town again, and in 1979, it was removed from the town to a city.In July 1983, it was upgraded to a provincial city, formerly a county level Yingtan
