The reporter learned from the Sports Bureau of the Tibet Autonomous Region that from January 11 to 13, Tibetan skiers Sorang Quzhen and Nima Yongqing participated in the competition for skiing, mountaineering and snowboarding obstacle chase at the 2020 Third Winter Youth Olympic Games (hereinafter referred to as the "Winter Olympics"). In the end, Sorang Quzhen won the fourth place in the women's individual cross-country skiing and mountaineering competition and the fourth place in the short distance skiing and mountaineering competition. This is the best result that the Chinese athletes have achieved since the skiing and mountaineering project entered the Olympic family, and also the best result that the Chinese sports delegation has achieved in this event so far.

It is reported that Sorang Quzhen's performance in the women's individual cross-country skiing and mountaineering competition was 1 hour, 2 minutes, 8 seconds and 99 seconds, less than 2 minutes behind the third place.

Skiing and mountaineering became the official event of the Winter Youth Olympic Games for the first time in 2017, including ski climbing and alpine skiing. There are individual cross-country races, individual short distance races, and transnational hybrid relay races for men and women.

Since 2016, the Tibetan ski team has selected athletes from sports schools in the Tibet Autonomous Region and Tibetan mountaineering schools to form cross-country skiing, snowboarding and snowboarding training teams. In 2017, the Tibetan ski training team was officially established. Taking the "going out" approach, the Tibetan ski team has received high-level training at home and abroad and participated in domestic and international competitions. So far, the Tibetan ski team has won 11 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 15 bronze medals.

In 2019, at the age of 16, Sorang Quzhen won all three women's championships in the Teenager Open at the China Songhua Lake Skiing and Climbing World Cup; In the 2019 Asian Cup Skiing and Climbing Competition and the "Sohu Cup" National Skiing and Climbing Challenge, she won the women's youth group short distance race champion and the vertical race champion. In the 2019 Qinghai Gangshika Second High Altitude World Skiing and Climbing Masters, she won the women's vertical race champion and runner up in the short distance race.

The Winter Youth Olympic Games was launched by the International Olympic Committee in 2007. It aims to enhance young athletes' understanding and recognition of the Olympic spirit and values, promote the popularization and development of the Olympic Movement more widely, and enhance mutual understanding between young athletes from different countries and regions, nationalities and races around the world.
